Irish Potato Candy
Apparently these are a “traditional Philadelphia confection that is not Irish and does not contain any potato, but is a cocoa powder and cinnamon covering over a white inside of coconut nougat made to look like a potato. It is a sweet treat, generally made up of some blend of coconut, confectioner’s sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and milk or cream. The treats are about the size of a large marble and are especially popular around St. Patrick’s Day.”
(I learn these things only because I work at an Ice Cream Soda Fountain/Candy Store. The Pine Nuts are added for ‘Potato Eyes’)
